Abstract

This paper examines the technique for the determination of gas production as an indicator of the microbial fermentation of feeds. Estimation methods based on the volume of gas or the pressure produced at a fixed volume are analyzed. The possible advantages of each method are commented as well as the mathematical adjustments needed, A view of the possible applications of the technique in the field of animal feeding, mainly with forages, and its restrictions. are also offered.
